Refresh 2011 helps InterIM CDA Revitalize a Community

Seattle, Wa - Thanks to dedicated staff, volunteers, patrons and sponsors, last night's InterIM CDA's 2011 Refresh Gala went without a hitch raising necessary funds to keep their mission alive. Executive Director Hyeok Kim said of the event appreciatively, "our work is due in part to the strong need for housing in the community. Thank you all."

In its four decade history InterIM CDA hasn't stopped to sustain and promote the vibrancy and cultural legacy of Seattle’s Chinatown/International District and the broader Asian and Pacific Islander community through affordable housing and community development. Projects include the Samaki Commons, both a transitional stop between homelessness and long-term housing as well as a refuge for newly migrated residents who need a sense of home while transitioning to American life.

Derek Wing co-emceed a program including a speech from Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn and a video message from US Senator Patty Murray.

Doris Koo, former President and CEO of Enterprise Community Partners Inc was the first recipient of the new Bob Santos Leadership in Sustainability Award! She received this award for her nearly 30 years of experience in affordable housing and community development. She has been a highly successful developer, public agency administrator, and nonprofit executive.

Notable appearances were made by Jean Godden; Bruce Harrell ; Ruth Woo ; Uncle Bob Santos ; Sharon Tomiko Santos ; Larry Phillips .

Lastly, we'd be remissed if we didn't acknowledge Nancy Ko who led the behind the scenes logistics.  Nancy was a NAAAP Seattle Board member for several terms, serving as a Social Committee Chair, VP of Operations and then a Board at Large.  Thanks Nancy!

A Community Leaders Event at Ruth's Chris Steak House

Bellevue, Wa - An evening of networking among a variety of community organizations was held at Ruth's Chris Steak House in Bellevue and hosted by State Farm. This was an opportunity for community leaders to share about their organizations and to connect them as we all share common goals and interests in the community. The event was also an appreciation for organizations that have a strong presence in the Seattle area.

The list of organizations attending to name a few were the Filipino Community Center of Seattle, African American MBA of Seattle, National Society of Hispanic MBAs of Seattle, Western Washington Indian Association, Executive Development Institute, The Central Area Motivation Program, Clear Channel Outdoor, Communities In Schools, SCIPDA, and the Asian Counseling and Referral Service.

As part of the gift giveaway part of the program, Starr MacDonald of EDI, also celebrating an anniversary, took home a basketful of goodies.

Opportunity to Serve on the Board of Directors with Local Non-Profit Organization!

Passionate, committed Board members needed for the International District Housing Alliance (IDHA), a 501c3 whose goal is to empower low-income individuals and families by providing a range of housing services, financial education, and leadership development. IDHA�s mission is to improve the quality of life for International District residents and Asians and Pacific islanders of Greater Seattle by providing community-building and low-income housing related services. Our program service areas include:

• housing search and stabilization assistance and referral,
• citizenship and ESL education,
• community building, and youth leadership development,
• homeownership education and counseling,
• financial literacy workshops.

IDHA has a 31-year history of serving Asian Pacific Americans, primarily, limited English proficient immigrants and refugees in both the Chinatown International District and greater Seattle area. Be part of an organization that provides unique services to Seattle residents, many of whom are Asian Pacific Americans who are recent immigrants to the United States. IDHA provides a range of services from homelessness prevention to empowering youth leaders in the community.

We are seeking Board members who can support the mission of the organization, fund development, and commit to at least one year of service. Particular skills could include:

� Comfort with soliciting funds
� Ability to provide a link to community and government organizations and businesses
� Creativity with creating and managing fundraising initiatives
� Persistence with achieving fundraising goals
� A passion for providing meaningful assistance to individuals and families in need

Board members will be asked to complete an application and attend a board meeting to be introduced to existing board members. Regular board meetings occur once monthly, with opportunities for committee work between monthly meetings.
